Learners studying a production cell layout in the Alderway workshop studio

Alderway

Industrial engineering learned beside the line, not only from slides

From diploma studios to short lean intensives, we teach work study, layout, and materials flow for people who will stand on a real shop floor.

Flagship programme

The Industrial Engineering Diploma

A 36-week taught year with studio workshops, plant visits, and a capstone assessed with an industry mentor—built for technicians and career changers entering analyst or supervisory roles.

Intake places are capped so every layout board gets tutor time. You leave with measured studies, a completed capstone, and language that makes sense to plant managers in the North East and beyond.

  • Work measurement and methods study
  • Plant layout and materials-flow studios
  • Quality systems grounded in live visits

What learners take back to the line

“The diploma’s plant-visit days forced me to measure queue times I had been guessing at for years. I still found the work-measurement module dense in weeks three and four, but the studio tutors stayed with the maths until it clicked.”

Helen Cartwright — Production supervisor, packaging manufacturer

“We sent six team leaders on the Lean Operations week. The waste-walk exercise on the mock cell translated straight onto our night shift the following Monday—less theorising, more marked-up maps.”

Marcus Doyle — Operations manager, fabricated metals
