Preparing for an Alderway open day
What to wear, what to ask tutors, and how to get the most from a campus visit before you enrol.
Open days at Alderway are built around the layout studio and the mock production cells, not a long theatre talk. Wear closed shoes you can stand in for an hour; you will move between rooms and may handle lightweight fixtures during demos.
Bring questions about your own background. Tutors would rather hear that you supervised a packing line for three years than receive a polished speech about ‘passion for engineering’. Specific experience helps us place you in the right module set.
Ask to see a completed capstone board from a previous diploma cohort. Those boards show the standard of work we expect and the kinds of factory problems learners tackle. If a board feels opaque, ask the tutor to walk you through one section.
If you are comparing evening CPD with the full diploma, say so early. The open-day schedule includes a short slot for that comparison so you do not sit through the wrong briefing.
Before you leave, note the next enrolment deadline and whether your preferred start term still has places. We keep a short waiting list, but studio capacity is fixed—especially for the autumn intake.
